Press Release by the Office of Senator Wilton Simpson

SimpsonTaxpayerAdvocateTallahassee, Fla. — Last week, the Florida Tax Collectors Association presented Senator Wilton Simpson (R-Trilby) with the Taxpayer Advocate of the Year Award. “Senator Simpson worked tirelessly last session to pass legislation authorizing tax collectors to process Concealed Weapons License Applications,” said Lisa Cullen, Association President and Brevard County Tax Collector. “He brings a high business acumen to the Legislature and understands the importance of the state and tax collectors working together to create economies of scale in order to save taxpayer dollars.”

“It was an honor to receive this award. The passage of Senate Bill 544 in 2014 allowed local tax collectors the opportunity to be appointed to accept applications for concealed weapon or firearm licenses,” said Senator Simpson. “By working with Commissioner Putnam, the tax collectors are bringing even more convenience and efficiency to the licensing process and I commend their efforts.”
